About 3:10 p.m. I was sitting here at the computer when the house shook, I think it swayed too because that was the sensation I had, there was a loud boom something like a tree limb hitting the roof. Something fell to the floor too but we haven't found what yet. There have been more and more quakes in our area, most likely due to the Fracking practices going on in the north Texas area but this was the first one we could feel.
It's been confirmed as a 3.5 quake. The epicenter was just a couple of miles west of me but it was strong enough to have been felt for miles around. http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2015/01/06/poss ... metroplex/
We didn't notice it down here. There is a lot of fracking around here. They say that it does cause minor earthquakes and Oklahoma has some from it. I hope you don't get any stronger ones. dooley
Scary! I remember an earthquake we had here when I was pregnant with my son (now 18 years old). I thought it was my hormones making me shake and dizzy but turned out it was an earthquake!
There was a 2nd one (3.6 and closer to me) just before 7 p.m. and then less than half an hour later a 3rd one. Still waiting on info about this one.
Sorry to double post but our earthquake total ended about 10 p.m. with 8. Each of the last 5 were weaker than the first three but there is some damage around the area, especially closer to the epicenter. A friend, closer to the center than us sent us this photo of damage and his oath.... Okay, it's really not that bad ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) Some houses did sustain some damage...cracks in walls and sidewalks but basically not all that bad.
I can only remember experiencing one earthquake here. It was the day of my daughter's christening and everyone was standing around chatting when the house began to shake. Things on the mantle slid onto the floor but that was about the limit of the damage done. It was more of a talking point than anything to worry about. I hope you don't have any more quakes Toni and, if you do, let them be very minor ones.
I didn't realize there were earthquakes in your area, and I'm glad that there weren't any injuries or damage. I had read that fracking was causing earthquakes in Oklahoma but I didn't associate it with Texas having them too. We feel them at times here but its to be expected as we are only 135 miles from Yellowstone plus there is a fault that runs north/south of us about 15 miles east.
I didn't watch the news yesterday, so no idea you where shaking up there. I've only felt an earthquake once when I lived in New Mexico. It's a weird feeling. I don't know how folks can handle the big ones!
The Balcones Fault Line runs from Del Rio in the southwest near Mexico up through north central Texas and then to the east. There were at least 9 all centered ENE of Irving. I live ENE of Irving And there are many other small fault lines and possible problem areas around the state. There is a lot of Fracking going on in Texas, Denton Country recently put a total ban on it and many cities are planning on doing the same thing. There was also an earthquake NNE of Snyder, Texas a few minutes after the first one happened here. Different fault line out there.
