My newest totem has settled nicely into it's place next to the Passionflower Vine. Totem in the garden ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) There is a Dunn Bros coffee shop we frequent....frequently but their Iced Vanilla Nirvana is soooooo good on a hot summer afternoon. Anyway, the roast their own beans and one day while there I saw one of these bags still full of beans sitting near the roaster, Randy asked if I could have it when it was empty. They had one in the back that the barista brought out to me a few minutes later. Any ideas on how to display it in the garden without the weather ruining it? Have no idea how to keep it from geeting messed up but I know they look really cool hanging up on the wall behind something that sits low to the ground. We hung one up behind my teachers desk one year.
I LOVE your totem! I've been trying to keep an eye out for some pretty glass because I want to try putting one together also. I love the colors in yours. Regarding the burlap sack... I don't know if you're wanting to keep it intact or not... but you could consider cutting it so it is flat and then place it in some sort of frame? Not long ago, I was doing a google search for things to make out of burlap... there was lots of ideas out there. Wonder if there's some sort of spray that works on it.... like shellac or something? Oh yeah... and I can see why you wanted that sack.... it's adorable!!
The colors of those dishes were exactly what I went looking for that day at the thrift store, found almost all of them at one time and haven't seen any more dishes of those colors since then. With that big blue butterfly on it I just couldn't resist it. I have been thinking about spraying it with shellac and with Jacquelyn's idea, thanks much by the way, I think I will hang it on the lattice that is covering Randy's office window. It gets late day sun but no rain unless the wind is blowing hard. Thinking about getting some narrow strips of lattice at Lowe's and have Randy make a faux frame for it so it doesn't fly around or fold up from hanging there. I have a Morning Glory vine and a couple of Hyacinth Bean vines planted there so they should provide some cover for it eventually.
I think you've picked the perfect spot for your totem Toni. I love the red and green glass together with the gold. I think the top looks as though it's a little bubble fountain which makes it even more attractive. I once made a shoulder bag out of a similar sack to the one you've got by double pleating string into a long handle and stitching it firmly to the inside top of the sacking. It now resides with my friend, Jan, in Crete and is still being used. Do let us see what you decide to do with yours.
Iced Vanilla Nirvana,..it has a ring to it of being tasty,..and cool! though i have never had it. The Totem reminds me of a pyramid of Jelly,..Eileen will know what i mean about Jelly,..you call it something else in the USA. Toni the sack is almost a collectors piece,..people probably do collect them,..i would keep it indoors like a wall hanging rug,..but if you must put it in the garden,..try getting clear plastic,..fold it covering the back and front of the sack,..then seal the three exposed areas with Silicone Sealant.
Hi Toni, i m replying to your request at 0615 in the morning,..as i am having my cereal, . What we call Jelly or Jellies is a form of Gelatine,..it comes in small blocks,..placed in a bowl or Mold then boiling water is stirred on to it,..after being placed in the cooler for several hours it becomes solid,..edible and very tasty,..in the USA if i am not mistaken you call this Jello,..correct me if i got that wrong. Below are just two Jellies which were made in a mold,(like your Totem). ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
That's what I thought.... but didn't want to assume. Come to think of it... I haven't had Jello in ages!
