I was born in Willenhall in the West Midlands and it was a town for Lock manufacturing for many years and generations besides a lock museum and the towns the same today as it is in these pictures.
I was born in Leith (the port of Edinburgh) and went to Dr Bell's primary school then onto Leith Academy. I was married in South Leith Parish church - which hasn't changed much. I worked in Bernard Street when I was a teenager and went shopping in the Kirkgate. If you look you'll see them all in these pictures. Some of the buildings still survive even now. http://www.leithhistory.co.uk/2007/10/31/some-views-of-old-leith/
@eileen what a glorious collection you have there and I find the old pictures besides our families in those times more better looking besides families even though it was hardship more happier than todays society..unless it's me. The Charles Combe Pulpit at South LeithParish Church made from Italian Marble is the finest example of its Kind in Scotland...the Pulpit was beautiful I attended these schools and I hated them the windows was high and the 2nd school went up in a blaze when kids was on school holidays.
Well, Gail and Eileen---I sure did enjoy all the foto's and commentary. Proof that this website is so much more that just flowers and veggies. Nice posting, girls.
Sjoerd I love old photo's and I used to do my family tree, so collected a few family members along the way in photo's but Eileens selection is lovely.
No photos these days. BUT when I was teaching I was very pleased to find a history book with images of the town I was brought up in. I was even more pleased when I realised that one of the pictures was of my mother and her younger sister stood outside the family shop.
I just love all your hospital pictures...This is where I was born....Newton, NJ hospital. It has changed names and grown and become very modern as all of them should....but this one is close to MY heart...1950. It was 14 years old at that time... Very modern at that time...but..my mom did not like it there she said it was very old fashioned...
waretrop love the old picture and it does look very old...I was born at home plus my eldest sister and my youngest in Bloxwich maternity home...can't find pic's on it
