I ordered some air filters online last week. I went to see where the tracking number stated they were at. The order originated in Ill. was shipped to Wisconsin, over to PENNSYLVANIA and now it is finally in OHIO... Hope to have them today. It seems like an enormous amount of fuel to get them here.
Shipping is not done via the shortest route. Each shipping company has sorting facilities around the country where the packages stop to be sorted by destination, combined and shipped out again and that may include two or three stops. If you live in a city where there is a sorting facility, then your package might make only one stop before being put on the delivery truck.
This is quite obvious. The slow boat to Ohio leaves Illinois by way of Chicago on Lake Michigan. The boat stops in Milwaukee WI before taking the scenic route through lake Huron into lake Erie bypassing Cleveland. The boat docks at Erie PA where the trucks are glad for the work and happily transport the package to Wadsworth, Ohio. A very easy explanation. Jerry
I know I am way too practical. I would think sending it towards a destination would be a little more logical than the round about way of 965 miles for a 371 mile trip. But yeah Jerry you are right the scenic route is always a joy for those who who like the scenic route, but the filters don't care too much.
I don't get it either. It took over a month to get a package to my brother in Hawaii. Then he orders some boat part from Houston and gets it in 3 days.
If you think your package made a convoluted journey, try tracking your email from your computer to the recipients computer...no short routes, they bounce all around the country in those few seconds.
I just heard about carriers using the usps via contracts with the original shipper called "smart post"(mine was via Fed ex) and that is how mine came. I paid for a private carrier and they sent it via usps.....They are making money sending it without actually being the carrier.
UPS and Fedex transfer many packages to the post offices for delivery to the end location, especially when the delivery is to a small town or rural address...shoot even in Dallas they will transfer it to the post office who makes the final delivery. Fedex/UPS and other major carriers have to contract with the USPS so they are paying USPS to make that delivery. It's those contracts that are pretty much keeping USPS from going belly up
I think your package passed by my piece of land this morning. I waved to it as it went out of sight to Nomans Land. Actually It reminds me of the woman who sent an invitation to someone for one of those home parties. Then she had another one 1 year later. Her friend showed up and she was bewildered. She brought the invite with her. It was mailed one year before exactly for the first party and arrived for her to go the the second one. I actually put on that home party and I personally sent out the invitation for the woman having the party. When she brought it I asked her if I could keep it and she let me have it. It had post marks from all over the place along with the dates visited. It was really one year of traveling.
Thanks Barb. I appreciate your genuine kindness as it passed by. I felt the warmth from there to here. The whole area has warmed by about 30 degrees. Can you believe that?
