Transferring Written Work Into 'My Documents' ?

I'm hoping to start screenwriting at some stage, but don't know if it is possible to transfer the work I do on the Word Processor of my computer into 'My Documents'?

Is it possible to do this, therefore, being able to retrieve the work each time to add more to it ?

I'll be interested to see other answers to this question, that is to say,
answers posted by people who really know how to make the most of the technology.

Still being pretty new with my laptop,
I just either type up the documents I what to keep directly in 'notepad',
or I copy and paste them into 'notepad' and then stick them into 'my documents' that way.

Not very professional, I'm sure, but it works for me. *lol*

I've titled a document and saved it on the desktop.

Does this folder hold a specific amount of information (pages) and can I keep adding more ?

A standard screenplay can be 100 pages in length, but if adding notes, references, etc., could amount to much more.

I appreciate any help and additional suggestions you may have on this matter.

This aspect of computer operation is completely new to me.

Please could you tell me what 'notepad' is on the computer and its function ?

Is it the same as the above, or does it afford another possibilty of storing work separately ?

CJ, I have Windows XP and I found 'notepad' in the program list.
(click - 'start' -> 'all programs' -> 'accessories' -> 'notepad')

It's function (at least for me), is just what it sounds like,
a really handy and simply formatted spot (I do best with "simple" )
to make my own notes or documents, or to copy and paste internet documents,
which I can then notate, and add to my own files, for future reference.

When I've written (or modified) to my heart's content,
I simply click to close the notepad page and it will then ask if I want to save the file,
if I click 'yes' it will then allow me to title the document and it goes directly to 'my documents',
where I can access it, and change it as often as I please.

May I also ask - When you say 'copy and paste' internet documents, what does that mean ? :-?

I feel as though I've just arrived from the Dark Ages - I know nothing about technology.

*lol* Not to worry, CJ, I am still brushing the cave dust outta my hair, for real!
So I may well be using confusing (or downright incorrect) terminology.

But, for instance, an 'internet document' that I might want to keep for reference,
could be plant growing instructions that I might find here at the Stew,
or elsewhere on the net ( :-? It's pretty much all about the plants, for me).

I would just left click to highlight the portion I wanted to save to my files,
then right click -> 'copy' -> open a page of notepad
(either a new/blank page, or perhaps an existing one that I wanted to add the info to) ->
right click again -> 'paste'.

I've been spending the last week personalising my computer, changing desktop background, screensaver, opening new folders, saving items, etc., etc.

Just been experimenting with the 'copy and paste' aspect. Great fun. Got the hang of it now. :-D

Of course you can save it to documents, I wrote a novel, and 5 stories for children, on my word processor they are saved in my documents and also burned on a CD I open my documents and it has a few folders in there saying my E-books or childrens stories etc. Your word processor should ask you if you want to save it of course answer yes...
