I have traveled to almost all of the states in the US and Mexico and Canada but never outside North America. I presently live within 500 Yds of where I was born. Some Stewbes have Traveled extensively or moved to other countries and it would be interesting to hear of your adventures.
With 22 years in the US Navy, I have been to almost every country around the Mediterranean plus England & Germany. Been around the southern tip of Africa and up into the Indian Ocean. Been to Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and the Phillapenes. Spent 4 hours in Danang South Viet Nam and that was 3 hrs. and 59 minutes too long. Been in every state east of the Missisippi River and several west of it. I now live within a 1/2 mile of where I grew up and my house sets on part of the home property.
An old Navy story was that when A sailor retired he started walking inland with an anchor on his shoulder and when someone asked what that was on his shoulder, that's where he decided to settle down!
As a young and poor married couple living in upstate NY, we went to Toronto Canada for vacations. Great place, except in winter . . . . Then as we became less impoverished, we took cruises in the Caribbean. One of the most memorable was on the Daphne, which was a converted freighter, carried only 300 passengers, and the captain and crew were Greek. Those folks know how to party! We were seated at the captain's table almost every evening because the captain was homesick and I talked about gardening with him. Then we discovered Windjammers--sailing ships carrying about 100 passengers and just trolling and rolling around the Virgin Islands. We snorkeled, met nice people on the islands, and had a great time. We used to visit Mexico once or twice a year, but haven't been there in about seven years. Recently we have been staying "home"--visiting sites in Texas. San Antonio is great, but take my advice and skip the Davis Mountains. What they call trails would make a mountain goat roll its eyes.
Does having lived on two different continents plus an island count? I'm Australian by birth. (Perth, West Australia.) I graduated high school when I was 15 (fast track program coupled with when my birthday fell,) and by the time I was 17 I was on a working holiday around Australia, starting with Canberra, the capital. A year and a half of that, and I was ready to move on. I knew people in New Zealand, so that was my next stop. I regret never having made it to the South Island, but an opportunity presented itself for me to travel to the US, and I took it! By the time I was 20, I was enjoying life in California. Marriage and kids took us to Alabama for several years, then back to California for for another 10. Moved to Nashville Tennessee in 1994, and I believe I'm going to be staying put from here on out.
I have traveled extensively in the USA and some in Canada. I don't much care to travel anymore. Just let me go a few or 4 hours from home and let me goof off in that immediate area and then let me come home. I don't mind spending a few nights away from home but I must get back and keep my household going. How we change over the years....
I traveled for my employer for 11 years at 120 days per year. I ate at two of the worlds 10 best restaurants. I was a home boy with a wife and four children, hats off to DW. It was a long time before I could eat out or sleep in a motel.
