Hello everyone, sorry I have not been around for a while but we have had quite a few health problems in our family. Anyway, I am here now and thought you might like to see some photos of my tree lilies. They really are spectacular and the scent is devine. Just to show how tall they grow I have attached one of me standing next to the deep pink one, the flowers are huge Tree lily ( photo / image / picture from Gardengirl's Garden ) Tree lily ( photo / image / picture from Gardengirl's Garden ) Tree Lily ( photo / image / picture from Gardengirl's Garden )
Gee Pat those lilies are HUGE!! I love the pink one in particular as it's such a delicate colour. Are they hardy in the whole of the UK as I'd really like to try growing a few here.
Hi Eileen, I do not take a chance with them during the winter, I keep them in a frost free place, not necessarily heated. I give them a feed as they are dying down in the autumn, then cut the dead stems back and they come back the next year. I got my bulbs from T & M. They are in pots so can easily be moved about. They have been going now for about three years and get taller every year :-D
Wow, I love them too. Every time I see plants at GardenStew, I have to go out and get one, or at least put it in my want list.
My moms ex-fiance had those growing in the garden of his most recent home. His mother had planted them years ago (long story, he lived there but his sister owned the house and she decided to sell it so he had to move...dont know if it sold yet). I have a pic somewhere of my boyfriend standing next to one of them. I would like to get some. I really like that darker pink one
How good to see you on here again. I am quite sorry to hear about the health probs in your family. Those tall lilies are remarkable. I especially liked that first one. Boy, that was quite pretty. I hope that you will not stay away so long now.
Yes Calin, they are in 15" dia pots in ordinary multi-purpose compost. All I do is give them a good feed once a year in the autumn and put them in a frost free spot over winter.
Thanks for the information Pat. I think I may try a few out next year. We're clearing a lot of older plants out of the garden to make space for new ones and these would look stunning. I have a few large pots that would be ideal for them too. :-D
Where's my wish list? I really need to see if these would survive here. Those are gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! And in a pot, no less.
