This one came up last year and was green all winter through. It is not the typical mint - I have that and know the smell. But this plant has a smell too. I could think of the smell of pine sol. Can anyone identify? I will also need to move it. I hope that is ok? ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden )
That is Lemon Balm Melissa officinalis (Lemon Balm) Moving it is fine, it can take anything. It will self seed very happily and soon you will have it coming up in places you never expected But it is great steeped in hot water as a tea, put leaves in iced tea, chop it up in ice cream and all sorts of deserts.
I have a variagated form of Lemon Balm which smells devine when you rub the leaves between your fingers. It reminds me of lemon sherbert. :-D
I have lemon basil that smells really great when rub between your fingers also. But it loves to take over which I didn't know when I planted it. I have several now in places that it can grow and bloom to it's hearts content.
