Had a good day out by a river 15 miles from home. Saw a few ground cones (fungus) look like the cones fron the pine trees. Also about 40 candy cane flowers. This is the river that we walked along also.

Wow, those are crazy looking fungi. I have never seen pine cone looking fungi before. I see those Candy Cane Plants have whitish to clearish leaves, are they saprophytes and would you be able to provide a scientific name? Was wondering because we have we have something here called Indian Pipe (Monotropa uniflora) and it has clearish/white leaves like that and it is a saprophyte.

Oh, that is a neat site! I also see that you have Monotropa uniflora on there. I was wondering, is that fungi you were referring to, the Matsutake mycelia, like mycorrhiza. I am doing a project on Phytoremediation in the Fall that involves mycorrhiza and plants plus the addition of EDTA and EDDS to help with heavy metal extraction in contaminated soils. I am just seeking as much info as I can find.

I'm afraid I'm not upto all the stuff that I have on the site. I go out with experts and take the pictures and they name everything for me. This is the index page. Dereila Nature Inn 100's of pages covering most things in nature. Nearly all the images are mine with the odd one from my son (the webmaster) any images I have not taken are credited to the photographer. Mainly State birds, State flowers, State inscts etc. I just can't go to all the States for these images. Other images sent to us are mainly for our news letter.

Those pine cone fungus are beautiful. I don't think we have anything like them here in Scotland but I will pay closer attention when next I'm out for a walk.
