Well as promised I have pics of our hike to Kvalvika or in english Whale Bay. Lots of pics so I'll explain as I post them.

The hike is about 8 Km, and one of the ways, which is the hardest is thru the pass of 2 mountains,, ofcourse thats the route we choose to go because its the most scenic.
    Halfway up the mountain trail.

Just to prove I really did do the hike,,lol. Me, at the top of the pass and on the otherside on the Bay side of the North Sea.

Halfway down the mountain side to the north shore of Kvalvika.

I took this trip to escape sheep, and look what greeted us at the bottom,,,,dinner!

    A giant whale vertabrae.

The west shore of Kvalvika, the place Kolbjørns grandmother was born. The front yard,,,lol.

What a view to relax by.

After 2 days of hiking all over down there and up and over the mountain. This what we looked like on our way back to home,,,the other guy is a friend of ours from France, Phillipe, who comes every yr to stay the summers with us,,, he showed up just as we was getting ready to leave, so we dragged him with us.

And ohhhhhh I had the longest shower when i got home, talk about sand in places that should never be thought of,,,,but it was worth every minute of it.

And where is the mint sauce when you need it?

Looks like you had a good time. Beautiful views and you slept on the beach? Sounds like a great time, except for the hiking ;)

Gosh you must be ultra fit to hike your way through that pass. I'd be left gasping for air about halfway!!!! I hope the break did the trick and that you're now feeling refreshed and ready for anything.

Biita, you offer the most interesting pictures and provide the wonderful stories that go with them. Kinda' makes me feel like I was on the hike with you.

I know in a previous post you mentioned you had lived in the states (don't remember which one). How long have you lived in Norway and if you don't mind me asking, what took you there? ;)

Kvalvika is really beautiful! I wouldn't like to live there, though, with the sea coming straight in, but I would like to see it. I think I might need a few days to get there on foot...

Here I was, thinking you wanted to get away from everybody, and you just bring everybody with you on the trip. :D

Thanks all, i'm super sore today,,my thigh muscles are screaming,,lol. Its easy to go up believe it or not, its the going down that is hard. Its straight down, and you really use muscles you don't think you even have.

It is a beautiful place, and we did sleep on the beach, just a bed roll and sleeping bag. But theres alot of places to go if the weather got bad.

Kolbjørns family everytime they needed supplies had to climb that mountain or go the other way around the mountain just to get flour. Its really crazy, once you experience the hike, to relize they did this hike at least once a week sometimes more, and even in winter.

Kuntrygal, i was born in Umeå, Sweden. My family migrated to the states when i was a child. I lived in Pa, Al, SD. I met Kolbjørn in the states and after about a yr we got married and moved here. Its almost 4 yrs now. 5 if you count when we met.
