White substance on my squash soil, but not on plants. Can anyone help me identify this? Is it a disease/fungus?

I honestly don't know, but I also wouldn't worry too much. If you have had a lot of rain and warm temps growth of molds is inevitable. It is probably growing on organic matter such as leaves or grass clippings which breaks down the material to produce more organic matter in the garden.

It's not hurting my plants as far as I can tell, but I do believe I'll turn it over.

    Could it be Mildew?

What kind of soil is it?

    Could be salt build up

Do you use tap water? Try a rain butt in the garden more nutrients for plants..

I had slime mold last year. Freaked when it covered my newly transplanted blueberries but didn't need to worry. Found out it was very beneficial. Funny looking stuff that changed its appearance as it went through its different stages. Last summer was damp and I'd layer down some bark mulch. In any case I wouldn't worry if your plants look healthy.

Perfectly normal & harmless decomposition of the mulch.
