I found this first one at Lowes Home Improvement on a clearance shelf. I paid a dollar for it, and nursed it back to health. Got rid of the wilted and dried up leaves . . . pinch, pinch, pinch . . .then gave her a new pot, good soil, water . . . and she was placed in a window to get the morning sun. Sassy little thing . . . just showing her bloomers off on this Sunday. Meet Miz Violet The second ones are actually babies from Mz. Suzie-Q Violet. One of my dearest friends was being transferred to another division in our college. (Her name is Susan . . . but I always called her Susie-Q.) She had her violet setting on her desk. I knew I would probably never see her again, so while Susie was away from her desk . . . I had a weak moment where I took a calculated ***little pinch*** where no one would see, and took my new Mz. Suzie -Q Violet home to root in a damp paper towel . . . was I ashamed??? You bet . . . when Susie went back to her desk I fessed up and explained I just had to have something to remember her by and showed her. She laughed in spite of my wickedness, and appeared to be very fascinated that I could possibly get a plant from one leaf. I did not thank her, because we mountain people have an old superstition that states, "Don't say thanks for a living plant, or it will not grow." Here is my evidence below, folks. These are Mz. Suzie-Q Violet's little ones. I pinched her off from them again, and she is wrapped in a damp paper towel over my sink . . . Miss Suzie-Q Violet's Orphans I started both pots about 5 weeks ago, and they have done me proud!
Don't feel guilty for pinching a start!! I did almost the same thing at my favorite nursery I just couldn't help breaking off the seed pods on some of the columbines!! I think that just means you're a gardener! Deanna :-D
LOL!!! My elderly aunt and I took a walk through a gated botanical garden one fall. She had a pocket full of all kinds of seeds when she came out at the other end!!! I never knew it until late spring when she was showing me all of her new plants. LOL
I think we've all been guilty of taking cuttings or seed pods now and again. I know that I've done it myself when I've seen a 'must have' plant. I've found some little gems growing wild after someone has dumped their garden waste.
Stratsmom, Eileen, and Glendann: I have a get-rich-scheme! We could be the first persons to come up with pants that you just put the seeds in your pockets, and add water. We'll call them "Chia Pants!" LOL
