Trying a new mater this year called a Johnson Greek. It's from Bonnie plants. The stake says that the fruit gets to 3/4 to 1 1/2 lbs. If they get that big, one slice should cover a slice of bread! Also got an Early Girl. Can't wait for BLT sandwich with home grown maters!
I never heard of it but it sounds good, good luck with it. Always like to have one Early Girl plant. Mine is already getting bushy and has a couple blooms, so keeping my fingers crossed. Usually they bloom all summer unless it get's real hot like 70+ at night, then they quit for a while, but the Early Girl will be the last tomato I pick in the fall too. Sometimes they do get smaller, even tho I feed them and water.
I'm in central Ohio and our frost free date is Mother's day. So it will be a couple of weeks before I can put them in the ground.
If they get that big be sure to put the biggest one on a scale and take a pic for our Giant Tomato contest. You could have the title of Tip Top Tomato Grower of GardenStew. All my vines are loaded,, 67 of them,, In fact the whole garden is going nuts this year. Have 4 cabbage heads waiting, a drawer full of squash and zuchinni, potatoes running out my ears. I need another refrigerator.
German Johnson, Nice older OP, pink, oblate, on RL indeterminate. Stake or trellis it. A substantial tomato on a largish vine.
