getting discouraged pretty fast I had sowed lavender seeds on Valentines day, put two sprigs of mint stems with two nodes under water the same day for rooting but nothing yet. For the lavender seeds, I put store bought lavender seeds in a 12" diameter container filled with miracle Gro potting mix, sprinkled some water and put it in my patio. Now the patio has a roof but is otherwise open. The temp is ranging from the upper 30s to mid 40s.Did I spoil the chances of the seeds sprouting by putting it outside? How long does it usually take for the lavender seeds to germinate? Yesterday, I bought a bunch of mint from the grocery store. Some of them had fine roots coming from a node.I removed the leaves of these and stuck them in a pot containing potting mix. Will they survive? Also, soaked some coriander seeds from spice bottle in water overnight and sowed them in a container with potting mix again. Will they ever sprout? Sorry this post got too long. I am about ready to give up my first try at gardening. So, looking for your help. Thanks. Tina.
Lavender will germinate in 10-30 days Tina and prefers a sunny spot. It would be better to grow them on a sunny window sill if you have one. Very likely Tina, mint is relatively easy to grow. Just keep the soil moist, place it in a sunny spot and give it a little time. Make sure to report back here This is some great information here Tina: http://www.au.gardenweb.com/forums/load ... 424.html?4 Hope this helps! // Frank
Tina don't be discouraged as we all started off the same way you are doing now. Just give them a little time and some TLC and before you know it there'll be some shoots appearing I'm sure. I planted some tomato seeds just three days ago and I know it's much too soon for them to germinate but I get so impatient, even now, waiting for the first signs of new shoots pushing through the earth.
Oh Tina don't give up patience is a gardeners middle name. The one thing that I know about herbs is that they like it on the hot and dry side. Too much care will kill them. Give them time and don't give up. ER
Tina everything will grow if not try again. You can get a small piece of Ginger root at the grocery store and plant it and it will grow also.Just pick out a small one. Sounds like all it needs now is a little TLC.
