My mom planted these irises and I can't figure out what type of iris this is. Could someone please tell me the name of this iris. Thanks http://s107.photobucket.com/albums/m317 ... GZkCPM.jpg
We need a little more information about this Iris since there are over 260 species of Iris. How tall is it? And when does it bloom, there are some bloomers for every time of the year. And do you know if it is a reblooming variety? Also, if she has had the Iris for a many years there may not be a specific name for it. Names didn't start appearing until breeders started producing the different colors and color combinations.
I dont' know the name or if they even have a name, but I have hundreds of them. Here in zone 7, they've just finished blooming, they are not rebloomers and they are an old variety that has been in my yard for as long as I can remember. Matter of fact, my mom planted the originals, at least 40 years ago. They are pretty, aren't they? And have a sweet scent.
I was going to say I thought it looked old fashioned. MaryAnn mine are about 2 1/2 inches tall now If you want to see some BEAUTIFUL iris, check them out on ebay!! I'm amazed at all the colors
That's funny you mentioned ebay because I was on there today and saw purple irises that appear to be very similar to the one above. It was called Wm. A. Setchels (Brehm, 1938) but the listing doesn't give a lot of the specifics as far as size and consecutive blooms, etc so not sure. My mom had irises when I was little. I really miss them.
Deanna! I'm glad they came up for you! I think they will be like the purple ones that JBrowning is asking about. LilyJunkie -- I can send you some iris if you would like some. I have to divide a spot. I don't know if they are purple though. The iris on ebay looks a lot like that iris, doesn't it? Imagine it's been going strong since 1938... chokes me up a little!
Okay, Getting back on topic here Check out this website http://www.schreinersgardens.com/miva/m ... _Code=SIGO They have hundreds of Iris, maybe you can find your Mom's there.
