Purchased a frozen turkey last month,..just over 8 Lbs,..thawed it out over the last 48 hours,..discovered it was too big to fit in the oven,..(Microwave Oven Grill) so cut the legs off and the parsons nose,..cooked them tonight,..cut the turkey in half,..just now cooking one half,..will cook the other half later in the morning,..whew its warm in the kitchen,..all the eight cats are lined up waiting for some snacks,..how long will it take all the furries and myself to eat this turkey  :D,..back to the kitchen folks.

Philip... I can just picture this! :D I love cooking a turkey especially for the leftover dishes. First will be turkey sandwiches. Then turkey enchilada casserole. And then either turkey soup or gumbo. And if there's some left... freeze it and start all over again.

Note to Philip - measure your oven BEFORE buying your Christmas turkey that way it's sure to fit. ;)
I have this mental picture of you butchering the bird while Molly and the cats sit drooling beside you. I hope you all enjoy it after all the effort you've put into cooking it.

Philip...maybe you should just try a chicken...or maybe a grouse or two  . the cats will still love you even if it's not turkey. I hope you all enjoyed the turkey, though, today and tomorrow and the next day and the day after that...so forth and so on...You will be all turkeyed out pretty soon. Merry Christmas Kitties!

Philip, how about a pre-cooked turkey? If you don't tell, the kitties and Molly probably won't know! You'll enjoy your turkey for days to come, I'm sure.
We have a large ham for our Christmas dinner. Want to know the definition of "eternity"? It's two people and a large ham! :D

Philip, that's called a "turducken" and was developed by chef Paul Prudhomme. I've never tackled one--it might last even longer than a large ham!
When you have it, let us know how you liked it, and just how long it lasted.

My sis-in-law has done a turducken a couple of times, but I think it was pre-made and she just had to cook it. It was very good!

Hi Jane and Cheryl,..i did have one before and it was mouth watering,..the taste of the three birds and the cranberry sauce was to die for,..soooo a "turducken",..never knew how it originated,..thanks for that info Jane,..oh we also have the one with turkey duck and pheasant though not as tasty as the pheasant is more bitter.

Hi KK,..i should have known the mention of food would send you in this direction,.. :D,..quite a lot of the turkey was consumed from early Christmas Day,..first the neck and giblets,..then i ate two legs,..,..after 13 hours half the turkey is gone,.mmmmmmmm it was nice,..granted the 8 cats and Molly the dog gave a hand,..,..a few glasses of brandy and some cigars were added,..nobody here to complain about the smoke.

KK the next attack on the turkey i will keep you in mind when eating as i know you love your tasty dishes.

The "Turducken",..well Jane asked for an update as to how it tasted and how long it lasted.

The taste was mouthwatering,..three different flavors of meat plus the stuffing would have satisfied anyone,..added to this when the Cranberry Sauce was added,..it was out of this world,.. :D .

It lasted four days,..i didn't share with the pets.

Most of you will have cooked in an oven but the Microwave Oven Grill is probably no more different.

Total weight was close to 4 Lb,..so 15 mins per Lb on 100 high,..(total 60 mins),..turning over half way through,..the last 35 mins i added Goose based roast potatoes,.. then everything for the last 8 mins on Dual Grill,..the veg was my favorite,..fresh Sprouts,..next year i will skip the problem of the too big Turkey,..
