Being a week with no medical appointments I finally got my fall garden started. On Monday we decided instead of digging in the back garden which has grass, etc, that we would plant in the square and circle beds in the front yard. So, we spread in manure and added some bags of top soil and spread that around. I made furrows and planted carrots, brussel sprouts, swiss chard, spinach and kale in the square bed. Short rows but it works. In the two circle beds I planted salad mix and red leaf lettuce. Yesterday, dr made me two more round beds and filled them with top soil. I have to ask the neighbor for another sack of manure from the ranch. It's well dried, etc. I will plant more kale and spinach and maybe carrots, but maybe not. I still have my pots to fill and plant the basil and oregano to winter inside. I still have some small peppers to plant in pots to winter inside. Today, I went with the hose to spinkle the beds. To my surprise there are two carrots and one brussel sprout up already. I'll be watching for more now and will take a picture when they are all up. dooley
You have some real excited veggies wanting to get started. At this rate you will have a salad in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to pictures. Jerry
Way to go, Dooley--you have put in some good stuff there. I hope that it all does really well for you. You have planned it out good, it sounds. I am excited for you.
