cherylad, I have the other one of your pair of boots. Nice Trumpet Vine. I had many kind of Aloe in my time but of course as you know I have to keep them in the greenhouse for the winter. Mine live in pots when they go outside to play for the Summer. I think next year I will make an area of exotics and plant them in the ground, even though I will have to dig them up in the Fall. They look so nice planted like you have them. Barb in Pa.
very orange! I love orange flowers, but at this point any color is welcome. there is nothing blooming here now, since it was 20f this week. Can you use the aloe for soap?
Barb... I was wondering where the other boot was! I've been wanting to plant something in it, but since there is no drainage... it has just been for decoration. Carolyn... I have no idea if it's used for soap. I only found out last year that is a Soap Aloe instead of Aloe Vera. This one can take over an area... it spreads pretty well. Thanks Netty! Hubby thought I was crazy for planting what he considers a weed. But I've always loved the flowers and it will look great cover the archway and "ugly" fence. Not mention that hummingbirds are supposed to love them.
I love orange too. The soap aloe got it's common name from the soapy lather you get when mixing the sap with water. Cheryl, let it become a large patch then use it for dish soap, bath soap and shampoo then you can spend that money on more plants instead.
I love the colours of your vine and aloe. They are so bright and cheerful. A very welcome sight for many of us at this time of year when our own flowers have all died back.
cherylad, Remember that topic about drilling holes in pots? Well, that boot was one of the things that I drilled. That was one of the easiest ones to do. Barb in Pa.
Aloe flower? Orange too. I have an Aloe plant, I have had it for about 15 years. Not the same plant since day one as they get too big and weigh much too much to haul around. So after about 4 years and 15 lbs it gets to stay outdoors as winter approaches and the offspring get to come in for the winter. I have never had a flower. Perhaps mine, the plain green kind, does not flower often. Or perhaps I never let it get old enough. Mine grows to be 3 feet wide and about 2 feet tall. This year I left the big one outside and took in four offspring. A flower would be nice, I jealous. Jerry
Jerry... I have some "regular" aloe that has never bloomed. I believe this is 2nd generation from the "mother plant". And it bloomed twice a year in a container. Now that it's in the ground, hopefully I'll see it bloom again in the spring. By the way.... the "mother plant" was the one my brother "the dragon" smushed with his tractor last spring. Now you see why I had a total fit about it!
Oooooh!! Smushed Aloe......not good....especially for the aloe. I can see the dragon getting a few scales hammered for that one. I will look for a flowering aloe. Cool trumpet vine, it will look nice covering the archway! Jerry
ME jealous TOO. That aloe... yum! Anyway, I wish I could grow these outside in the garden. POT also OK. I am happy with this Haworthia Second year in bloom Aloes I've got... still too small!
I have a small Haworthia. I think I'll get it a bigger pot and maybe one day it'll bloom like yours. It's spectacular!
Orange is a nice colour in blooms, and yours certainly brightened my day. Both of your plants are house plants here. I had some soap aloe but they didn't like it with me.
