That old bench a friend gave me a couple of years ago just rotted away. So Hubby built me a new one. Even though it's cedar and is supposed to be pretty resistant to the weather, I went ahead and put some water seal on it. new bench ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Next up... The Calla that I've struggled with for a couple of years is totally loving that old wash tub that it's planted in. So much so, that it was about to kill the other Callas that I had in there. I've been looking for another similar tub... but couldn't find anything besides round ones and they cost several pretty pennies! So one day just sitting there... right in front of me was the solution. Duh... use one of the other barrels I got (for free) from the carwash! Went from this... 35 gallon barrel ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) To this... Barrel Planter ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) It's the first time I've used some of that spray paint that's made just for plastic and was pretty impressed with it. In real life... it does look more terra cotta than pumpkin orange. Not that it matters, because if you couldn't tell, I LIKE orange!
It looks good to me. I like orange, too. I've been cleaning yard but it's no where near as nice and neat as yours. dooley
Orange you clever. Nice barrel transformation.....what happend to the little piece? Did you make something out of that too? Jerry
I like orange too and think your new calla planter is lovely. Why buy planters when you can adapt things you have like carwash drums. Oh almost forgot - the new bench looks great and, as it's watersealed, should last you for many years.
Cheryl, Love your new planter and bench. Hubby going to say, not another GardenStew project. I have the barrel, now I have a use for it. What is the paint that you used?
Well done Cheryl,..two great projects and looking good,..love the bench and yes i agree with the water seal,..what a new look that barrel has had,..looks just right,..containers are so expensive that its worth converting empty containers for the garden.
Dooley.... Thank you... I do try to keep it under control. Jerry... I kept the other part. I don't have a plan for it... but just knew that if I tossed it out I'd need it later. And orange you clever too! Eileen... I know the Callas are happy to be able to breathe and spread out. That other one just got so big (I'm not complaining though). Donna... the paint was by Valspar. The label says it's for plastic and other uses. Krylon makes a plastic paint also. Hubby's used to it now... when I come home with some object he asks... "what am I gonna have to make out of that?" Philip... you're so right about the price of containers. And just try to find a nice big one for a reasonable price. I have another one of these barrels just sitting around... and I have another can of paint. No reason I shouldn't go ahead and make it a pair! Right? I think I need to stop by the carwash on the way home and see if they have some more barrels! Thanks everyone... and I'm real happy with the new bench too. That tree just looked naked without it!
I like orange too and am in need of a large planter....I'll try not to wake you when I come get it. :-D Hubby did a great job on the bench. I love the color of cedar when it ages.
