I had two visitors this afternoon. They both still had their spots, but they are almost gone. The furthest one was a little bit larger.
Oh Capt.!! I love deer!! They are the most amazing animals to watch! Just as long as they stay out my flowers and veggies!!lol! Do these two visit you often?
Oh I hate for them to be hit by cars!! My husband has to be very careful going into work in the mornings so he doesn't run any over!!! Sometimes tho no matter how careful you are you just can't avoid them when they panic!!
Sorry to ask a silly question but why did you mention that thy still had their spots Capt? I'm guessing here but is it something to do with their age?
Frank, when fawn's are born, they have white spots on them. This helps them to blend in with their surroundings when they are in the woods. As they grow the spots start to fade. At about 6 months old, the spots are usually gone and they are the background color. The mother will send them a signal to hide and they will lay down in some brush and virtually disapear. I would say that these are about 3 to 4 months old. That is why the spots are almost gone. These are the White Tail variety. When the spots are gone the underside of their tails will be snow white. When they are spooked or feel that there is danger present, they flip their tails straight up and send a warning signal to the other deer. Like a warning flag. That is todays lesson in Deer 101!
awe they are so pretty.... i didnt know that about the spots eithier.. cool. i learned something new today! thanks!
