Today is Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022. Just a reminder of New England farmer's knowledge for winter and spring: January, the darkest days of winter February brings the thaw then there are the winds of March and finally April showers bring May flowers Hey, New Englanders, how do you like New England's Flip Flop February this year? At least there is a warming trend...
You could just as easily be talking about Texas ! 75 degrees when I got up this morning,,, 30 degrees now down to 25 tonight ! But thats Texas for ya ` !
Missouri is up and down a lot too. It was in the 70s earlier this week. We have an inch of sleet so far, and more expected tonight and tomorrow. It is down to 19 (supposed to bottom out at 22). In a few days it will warm up again. I call it yo-yo weather, or tornado weather. Missouri is part of tornado alley, and this crazy weather often brings tornadoes which are sometimes deadly. I would prefer it to stay cold until the middle of April and then turn to spring. This crazy weather fools the fruit trees and then we have late freezes to kill the blossoms and fruit. The daffodils are full of buds and will bloom soon. I saw one trying to open yesterday. Irises, and lilies are up. So are the sedums. The white spirea and the red flowering quince are also full of buds, and I think the forsythias are also. I just hope the fruit trees do not bud and bloom too soon.
It's the same here. Right now it's snowing and raining, and we have +3C. Double-digit plus temps forecast in a few days, and then back to snow. We also have this little song about January with snow and ice, February likewise, March is not quite spring, but April nicer weather brings or words to that effect.
Daffodils are blooming here but not quite spring yet,, dogwoods have not bloomed or the hawthorn trees !
