So I'm wondering if any other cold-climate gardeners get this idea. Our gardens look soo dead 'round this time of year. I was just out cutting out dead stuff, and thinking about how tidy things looked where I'd cleared. And I had a reeeeeally strong urge to get out the digging fork and pull it all out, the plants I have to prune endlessly, the evergreens that have taken over, plants that just limp along enough to tease me into thinking they are going to live. Just leave a few foundation trees that are thriving and get rid of everything else. Let the bulbs come up in the spring to a clean, new, fresh garden. I'm actually thinking about doing it, before the ground freezes. Maybe move some of the shrubs down into the pond-garden where there is plenty of room for them to stretch out. Hm, sounds like I might talk myself right into it! Guess I'll go look up all the compact low-growing hardy plants I can find...
Yaaayyyy it's not just me then!!! Thank goodness for that. I've already cleared the front garden completely and there are no longer any plants in the ground. Guess what though? Yep I'm going to put some plants back in as I've decided that it's just too neat and tidy now. I guess we gardeners are just never satisfied are we?
I'm constantly moving things around in my gardens too. I have to stop myself this time of year though...it's just too cold here to transplant now.
Move if you must..... That puts joy in our labor......Dig replant , try another spot........ Recreate a scene........ Save some for friends. Sure that's called Ole time gardening. Go and grow..
Indeed ...your correct.......... I know one thing; What the lord givith , He taketh away in the winter>>
