A week and a half ago, we were freezing to death. Now we are extremely warm for the season. We had some very gentil light rain last night, maybe 1/4 in or so. This morning it is clear with bright sun and going to the high 50's. Tomorrow they are saying near 60. I was just out in the yard walking around and the grass is bright geen and looks like spring grass. I was looking at some of the wild roses and they are starting to get leaf buds on them. Oops!

I know what you mean Captain, it's the same thing here. It seems to go from one extreme to the other...it's 9 deg C here right now, and last Wednesday it was -8!
My lilac and apple trees have buds. I keep checking to see if the tulips or daffodils are peeking out! (no sign of them yet!)

It's relatively warm here too. Definitely not December weather in fact this is the warmest December in Sweden in 500 years!

It's the wettest December for 40 years here in Scotland. Roads are closed because of flooding and trees falling into the path of cars because of the gale force winds. It may still be quite mild but I really do wish the rain would stop for a while.

Well it is blowing a gale here in Essex again. Still, very mild, but like you Eileen, lashings of rain which is really getting me down. I am out working in peoples gardens in this horrid weather and it is starting to take it's toll!

I think your wind has reached us over here now!

Just had a couple large branches hit the house in that last gust - looks like part of the neighbor's fence is down too. At least it's relatively warm, in the 50s and rainy, which beats an ice storm any day. Lots of sticks to pick up once this is past.

Warm again today. Supposed to be 52 tomorrow. Doesn't look like snow for Christmas here in Michigan.

Rain and mild here in southern Ontario, Canada too. Usually we have frost or snow by now. Very strange.

Much the same here as Eileen says, Must be why my Scottish auntie likes it here. We had "hurricane strength winds" last night, I've never heard anything quite like it. Lost a bit of roof, and a very old serviceberry bush, but we got off pretty easy. A friend reportedly had two trees lying across their roof, which is full of small holes now, and two more trees are ready to go. They have a team of friends helping them out. My son is worried because a big old doug fir crashed through the roof of the kitchen where he works weekends- if they are forced to close up he won't be able to pay off his guitar anytime soon. Crazy weather. Tomorrow it's supposed to snow! I already froze my fingers this morning digging in a new post to hold up my goat fence (they were very happy to skip all over the place nibbling my plants, arrrrggghhh!)

Wow - we just had an interesting day and night... a very strong windstorm just whipped through Oregon and Washington (I understand Seattle was really hit hard) we had winds in the Coast Range here around 112 mph... Thankfully I am a little further inland and sheltered by a small mountain from the worst of it, but even so we all slept downstairs (and brought the hamster and the parakeets down with us) "just in case." We are surrounded by very large douglas firs, and my yard is entirely coated in branches and bits of tree now - we had a transformer blow up near us but our own power only flickered while the folks on the other side of the road went dark. Lots of people still without power.

Partway into the evening there was an incredible, screeching, whistling gust of wind followed by an ominous large cracking sound. My son and I were looking out one of the windows at the time and when I saw the huge, black silhouette of a 120-ft. doug fir coming down in the general direction of our house, I grabbed him and hollered "Other end of the house!" - we came skidding into the kitchen as a large muffled "wump" was heard someplace out there, but not against the house itself. "Down!" I said and all three kids went wide-eyed down into the basement as Treble shot in the front door from where he had been out in the dark helping a neighbor with a chunk of loose fence. We really couldn't tell what happened in the dark, except the house was okay... hence all sleeping downstairs. Moved my wagon into the garage to protect it, but our little car had to stay out and gained two dents from branches during the night.

Early this morning, I took a couple pictures of what I found:

It was on the other side of our fence, so thankfully we don't have to deal with the insurance, etc... we really felt for the folks in the RV that was parked there! They weren't hit, but it must have been frightening to have that going down within a couple yards of their camper! The man there said he left at that point and slept in his car in a shopping mall parking lot the rest of the night.

Looking at the trunk - this really was a miracle. The tree fell so that it laid down right along our sideyard. It didn't take down any other trees, didn't hit any other fences or houses. It even missed my dogwood - the only thing squished was my Oregon Grape and those grow back pretty fast. It's very, very big.

A glance out the front door - what a lot of branches! We've been hauling them and stacking them into piles off and on all day - plenty more still to do. Rain and hail and slush falling today... What a mess - but we are very grateful, we really didn't have much damage overall. If you all lived closer, I could easily supply all of you with boughs for your Christmas decorations right now, and then some!

Oh my gosh  so many of you are having such shocking weather!!

Prim, those picture are dreadfully familiar to a hurricane country dweller,
puts a very big lump in my throat, I know that awful sound you described.
I'm so glad to know that you all are okay, and didn't sustain any damage from that tree.

I sure hope everyone's weather settles down, keep safe, all.

I thought about that - how some of you must have to live with things like this all too often. I'm really quite spoiled, living where I do - we so rarely have 'violent' weather.

We are having temps in the 70's this week. Tomorrow should be upper 70's and sunday will be in the 80's.
Not really unusual for us, but I don't like the warmth anyway.
We are looking at the possibility of spring like thunderstorms early next week. Oh, well, we really need the rain.
