Now that's something I would have in my home. Fresh herbs just sitting there for the picking really appeals to me.
Mmmm,,wonder what they do for drainage? Guess just minimal water since evaporation is all to worry about.
Easy enough to see when they need water through the glass so that's convenient. I saw several versions of this idea in a frou-frou quasi antique shop last week. One idea was to attach one jar to decorative piece of wood and use it as a flower vase, several of them on a wall looks really pretty. You can use different color Mason jars too.
Great minds, Toni..... Ed has some different colored mason jars in his basement which is why that idea caught my attention. Then it occurred to me that just attaching one of them to a decorative type background....distressed wood, filigreed metal, punched copper or the like...would make a lovely hanging vase!
How does excess water escape, or drain out? They do look attractive on the wall--very kitcheny, and quickly available when cooking. Good find, Ronni.
Looks nice and neat,..fresh Herbs within reach is good,..keeping the soil moist shouldn't be too difficult
I don't guess it does. So you'd have to be careful with the watering. If I were setting up a series of them for an herb garden, I'd put some rocks in the bottom of each jar, just to make sure I didn't end up inadvertently drowning the herbs or causing the roots to rot because the soil was too moist. It would be a good visual too...you could vary the color of the rocks, or maybe do those different colored glass marbles or jewel like things that are sold to put in the bottoms of clear vases...you know what I'm talking about? That could be fun too!
I like the sound of that Ronni. That would make it look quite attractive. I know that there are various types of stones, glass and sands that are sold for this purpose.
oh man that would be awesome with a place that gets direct sunlight1! I'd totally do that i even have some jars, but sadly i need to have my herbs right up to my window due to the north facing side I live on
That looks great, I love the idea of hanging the herbs along the wall, it saves a lot of space in the kitchen and can also be handy.
