"An exterminator cornered the sparrow and shot it." Surely if they managed to corner it they could have thrown a towel or something similar over it and removed it with having to resort to shooting the poor thing!!!!! I've managed to corner a few birds in my time that have managed to get into the shed or house but never once would I ever have resorted to killing them.
