Anyone ever seen a hyacinth like this before? I bought a pack last autumn. Apparently it is a new variety. Quite pretty, but unfortunately no scent. ( photo / image / picture from Gardengirl's Garden )
That is interesting and certainly doesn't look like any Hyacinth I've ever seen. And no scent?? Hmmm....
Aw, it's so cool! I tried one like that a few years back, it was called Muscari Plumosum, Feather Hyacinth. Unfortunately it didn't come back the following spring.
GardenGirl--that is one of those plants where the blooms are so pretty, that it doesn't matter if it has a fragrance or not.
I must admit that when the buds started growing I was a bit disappointed but as the days went on it blossomed into this beautiful large bloom. Thanks for the name Droopy. Maybe I will lift the bulbs when they are over and see if I can save them for next year.
I have now googled feather hyacinth and I do not think my hyacinth is one of these. The blooms of the feather hyacinth, as stated in the name 'muscari', are more like the grape hyacinth, closer together, whereas my hyacinth is more feathery as can be seen by the photo. Here is one of the photos I found on Google (obviously I do not own copyright of this photo) You can see the difference. ( photo / image / picture from Gardengirl's Garden )
When I photo search for Muscari plumosum I get lots of images looking like your bloom. Here's one example: bulbsdirect And another one: broadleighbulbs.co.uk They call them Muscari comosum plumosum and there are several different varieties.
I stand corrected Droopy...many apologies The photo above was the first I looked at, maybe I should have searched further
No worries, Gg. It's easy to forget that there often are many varieties of a plant. I keep putting my foot in it all the time.
