I sliced 3 gallons of pickles this morning and have them setting in salt brine. They need to set for 4 days. They there is 3 boilings with different spices and then they go into a syupe and into pint jars for sealing. I still have enough cukes left to make about 2 gallons and I thnk I am going to make them into dill slices, similar to hamburger dills. Both recipes were my mom's and the sweet pickle recipe is at least 50 years old. But man are they ever good and well worth all the work. They are called BarBQ Sweet pickles. I like them best on a chicken sandwich or on a sloppy joe sandwich.
You have been bust haven't you. Looks as though you're going to be having pickles for some time to come.
Had a hard time finding pickling cucumbers thie year. It' been so dry here, that not very many people have them. I had to order them from a grocery store. She told me that they would be $27 for the 1/2 bushel. When I went to pick them up this morning, she wanted me to take a look at them first, because she was really dissapointed in what the company had sent. They were just the size that I wanted. 3 to 4 inches long and about an inch in diameter. She sold me the 1/2 bushel for $8. I tried 8 different places before I finally found some, so I feel lucky to have gotten any at all. :!:
