I started digging up the grass and weeds on this area back in early May. I did post a picture of the first plants to be put in the ground but things have changed quite a bit since then. I can not work on enlarging the area until fall probably because with the lack of rain this summer the undug soil is concrete hard. But I have been planting in the area available, so far there are 4 red Valerian, 2 Magic Spires Salvia, 2 "false Chamomile", a Maximillian Sunflower, a Angelonia angustifolia hybrid aka Summer Snapdragon, a couple of seedlings I found out back whose marker had faded, 2 Coreopsis, Evening Primrose, 2 Milkweed and the Duranta is in the pot on the right. I still have transplant a Mealy sage from the backyard and divide the Mint Marigold this fall to transplant. Surrounding the two squirrel planted Oak trees I am going to plant some Iris, Lily and Glads when I do some thinning out. These are the Canna Tropicanna I received from a lady on the rEcycle list last August and a small Artemesia- Powis Castle transplanted from the back yard.

I think you've done a lot out there, and you've certainly got lots of plants to add to the ones you've already put in. I'm so looking forward to seeing it when you're done.
That is going to be so pretty when its all finished, but honestly i think you have done a great job already,,, geez those small trees you call canna's are huge! There as big as our arctic birches,,,lol.
You have a good start...I love Coreopsis but haven't had real good luck here. I bought 3 more plants to give it a try again....I put 2 of them in pots this time to fill things in. Keep up the good work...I know about hard ground...best to wait. This season we have had plenty of rain.
Thanks for the compliment on the old Dodge. It's a 1971 and belonged to my Dad. He rebuilt it and even put in a brand new engine. It attracts a lot of attention. It's also my rolling Ham Shack. The antenna on the toolbox is for one of the Ham Radios. There are three other antennas, but they don't show up in the pictures.
Looks like you have come along way already. But I know exactly what you mean about the 'concrete' stuff that is called soil. Hopefully you will get some much needed rain soon. Can't wait to see the finished project!
That front garden has really grown from the first fotos you showed way back when... Your selection of plants will look really nice too when they do their blooming bit. You have a good variety of height and colour. I am really interested to see how it will all progress as the ground softens with rain. I always enjoy seeing things change and develop. p.s. I really like that old Dodge pickup you folks have. It looks really nice. When we lived in Alaska we had a Dodge truck, but perhaps not so old as that one. It was like driving a great tank around. Just the thing for wilderness living. We sure had some times in that thing, I'll tell you.
Thanks y'all. Since the ground is too hard to dig up I am hoping to get an edging around it to define the area better. The main part needs to be extended back to the blue and green carts back there, then angle on back to the fence. I wanted some wood picket fencing along our property line but I can't find any. I can find plastic but I don't want plastic, it's too bright and shiny. I hope when they all start filling in and blooming that I don't have to move too many things around. I have a terrible time trying to plan things out when it comes to what and where, I just put them in where it feels right. Sjoerd, that truck is like riding in a tank....big, loud and makes some people think twice about pulling out in front of it cause they know it can do a lot of damage to the car made of tin and fiberglass they are driving.
