I have a few of these small dishes around the deck for the birds water. I took these two pictures within minutes of each other as both birds came to this dish.

Birds really appreciate a source of water in a garden. Mine love to bathe in the shallows of the pond as well as drink from it. I just wish more people would think of our feathered friends and leave shallow containers of water out for them as you do.

    Super photos Kildale!
I've had birds taking advantage of the tub where the Black Irises live since I put in that little solar fountain. Totally paid for itself already.

I put out water for the birds. Usually it's cardinals but today I saw a dove. We don't have as many birds so they must be moving where it's not so hot and dry.

We have three watering stations spread around the yard--two of them have pebbles in the bottom to make landing spots for bees.
Cardinals, wrens, chickadees, mockingbirds, and doves come regularly to get water, even though we have a pond. The herons, kildeer, and egrets use the pond. Our Whistling ducks are daily visitors, but we can't figure out where they spend their evenings!
Ed, if your water is in heavy shade or surrounded by greenery, birds aren't likely to come. Dapple shade and having a clear (and predator-safe) area around the water will entice birds.

Lovely lovely photos. I think our birds bathe and drink in someone elses garden as, like Ed, I provide water, but have never seen anything use it!

Me too Philip. I'd love to watch birds bathe and drink in my garden, but I don't want to lure them here with that tomcat of ours around. He chases seagulls, and he has brought me a seagull steak now and then.

Your photos are lovely, Kildale. You spoil us so much! I've found myself watching nature programs and thinking that I know someone who could do them better. :D
