I was so tired last night, I only got one pic resized. But it is one of the best picks that I took.

This is a Great Blue Herron. There was a swampy area that was for primitive camping in the park, so it dosn't get used much. I also got a picture of this guys mate setting on her nest.

A very nice bird indeed. So nice of you to share it. I'm not very fond of herons as a rule, since they make the most horrid noise, but I do like to see then when they are fishing. They are still like statues. :D

Welcome back, Capt'n. That is a great shot of that heron. Those birds are common here and inhabit the canals. I like them very much.

About how tall do you think he was? He looks pretty big in that photo...

Great looking bird. I love watching them. I am sure that heron knew where the best fishing spots are. :stew1:

Where did you vacation? I think we have Great Blue Herons here. They kind of freak me out 'cause they are so big

We were in southwest Georgia. This bird was about 6 ft tall.

I often see Great Blue Heron's flying overhead. They are huge birds and look very graceful.

We have them here too but I think they like getting a free meal in people's koi ponds... so they aren't that popular (luckily they are protected by law). I like them though (but then again, I don't have a koi pond...) That is one big bird, CK. The terrain looks really wild and like you should watch your toes from snappers!!! Did you catch a lot of fish?

It rained almost every day we were there. So the fishing really stunk. There wasn't anyone catching anything. Didn't see any snappers, but I was too busy looking for snakes. Did see several. I would walk a mile out of my way to get around a snake.

Aww, too bad about the rain. I hope you had a fun time anyway. I would walk a mile to avoid a snake too! Especially water snakes. Makes me shudder just to think about it.... A heron that big could probably eat a small snake, do you think?

My wife saw one eat a 2 ft long snake and he was still alive as he slid down the neck, she could see his neck wiggling!
