We visited friends at their cabin near Creede last week. Look at this: Went fishing in some lakes up there My daughter & another girl climbed the mountain
We spent two weeks in Creede last month and are going back in a week or so. We were building a cabin for a friend. We are on the Bachelors loop on ten acres with a silver mine. Amazing country. At 10,800 Altitude it can be tough to breath. We were camping the whole time, and all i miised was a real bathroom Loved the purple iris looking flowers that were all over the mountain. Was nice to see your pics. We missed the bear pic, and hubby even saw a wolf very briefly. Kathy
Our friends' cabin was right at 10,000 feet. It made me tired, but my wife & daughter felt nauseous - and tossed cookies a time or two. I just noticed it made me feel "out of sorts". My dad's house is at 7,500 feet and we have no trouble there. Our own home is at 3,700.
Please be very careful. High Altitude sickness is nothing to be casual about. It can progress to High Altitude Pulmonary Edema and is deadly if not treated immediately. The gentleman that owns the land became very ill and being aware of this disease I encouraged then insisted that he go to the local medical clinic there in Creede. In seconds a nurse came to say he was very lose to organ damage and that leads to death. With oxygen he got better, plus he had to go to a lower elevation than Creede, that is 8,000. Had he waited much longer it could have been fatal. He now must have oxygen at all times when in Creede and higher, but in time might adjust. Shame since he cannot help build the cabin, just watch others do it, and is afraid now he might not be able to live there. THe weather is a far cry from West Texas where we live. I am not convinced that I would want to live in Creede because I have a longer growing season here. What beautiful scenery. It looks so peaceful there away from all of the hustle and bustle. It's hard to imagine that it could be hazardous to your health. I hope you, your wife, and daughter are ok. Did you catch alot of fish?
What a beautiful part of the country. It's been years since I've been to Colorado, so what a treat to see pics from the Creede area.
