You all must have been thinking I was never going to post or I never actually went on vacation... tell me why do we go? when we get back I have twice as many things to catch up on and get done. plus all the things that arose fresh while we were gone. We left on Sunday the 16th of Oct and drove and drove and drove....our first stop was the painted desert and the petrified forest but those pics are stuck on my camera memory not on my sd card. this was the afternoon we arrived at the Grand canyon. it was pretty hazy with the heat . way above normal for Oct. it was probably mid 80's while we were there. the sheer size of this hole carved out in this 300 mile stretch is unfathomable. we drove from one end to the other on the highway to go to the hoover dam..... this area was within the first 50 miles of the canyon. we did not see the rest of the canyon to the West. the size is just not walkable nor is it tourist-y. this is part of the Navajo Territory. more of the same, just smaller in scope. We stopped at a roadside market and looked around. I bought 2 bowls to add to my sons this is the East entrance of the Grand Canyon. We came across this as we re-entered the canyon the next day as we returned. we didn't see it as we left the previous day, but stopped and walked around when we saw it. Can I tell you we walked the 88 steps to the top of this tower. going up the steps wasn't so bad but coming down them I thought I was going to collapse. I think the altitude was hitting me then and there. My legs were in agony for the next three days. this is the overlook at this point.... just as majestic as every other spot we stopped. odd rocks here, too. it looks like square rock oreos. this was the biggest foliage I saw up close. if anything else had a larger leaf I didn't see it. I am sure you all would like me to stop hoggin the page so... I'll do more later of another stop... like maybe Bearzonia. cool drive thru wildlife park. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoy seeing your neck of the woods.
What great foto's Carolyn. You got to see some of the popular sites there, didn't you. But when you stopped, it was like a commercial break on the telly during an exciting film. hahaha. I wanna see more!
Oh I began to feel slightly dizzy when I saw your photographs. I guess I imagined myself being there with you and looking down. I'm really scared of heights and am glad I can appreciate the scenery from the safety of my chair!!
One of those places I would love to see Carolyn but your pictures show the sheer magnitude of Grand Canyon. Thanks for sharing.
Love the photos. We visited the Grand Canyon many years ago, and I can still remember feeling completely overwhelmed at the magnitude of it all!
My oldest daughter takes a school group on a trip there every three years and loves it. Did you get to stand on the glass observation platform??? No way in ...... you would get me on it but she loved it.
It is as breath taking as imaginable. Eileen, it is a bit dizzying on the first look. I can't believe the people willing to scale to the outer rocks and sit or stand on the edge and look over... one MOTHER was even standing out there with a child tramping around on the edge. one slip? it is a far ways down to be rescued if you are rescue-able. I wasn't brave enough to risk it. Toni, I am wondering if that is at the West end of the canyon? over by the Hoover Dam? I saw it advertised after we got back, but the $$ was more than I was willing to spend anyway for the package I saw.. like 2800.00- for 4 persons. a ride a walk and a helicopter ride? I don't know how much just a sky walk was, though. It was a grand adventure.
Beautiful pictures, Carolyn! We've visited it once and was in awe that nature created it. Your pictures did bring back the memories.
Gorgeous! Definitely a place on my 'bucket list'. I laughed at the photo with the tourists and the selfie stick leaning against the rails!
I don't care for heights and hang onto the guard rails tightly when we are standing close to the edge. I ventured out onto the glass platform just one time and will never do that again. It's bad enough looking out and down. Just looking down is not my cup of tea. dooley
