A few pictures from my trip to the Valley of Fire, a State park in Nevada. Just click.Valley of Fire.
Fantastic rock formations and what dramatic colours. Is the name 'Valley of Fire' taken from those red rocks or from the heat in the valley? It must have been a wonderful sight to stand and gaze over a valley formed by those wonderful and natural creations.
Great pictures Kildale. Many years ago my wife and I went to see the place and view the Indian pictographs. From a comfortable 70°f car to 130°F in the shade, we felt like instant fried people. Was it hot when you were there? Jerry
No,it was under 80 degrees with a cooling wind. I thought it was perhaps the sunsets shining on the red rocks which has given it the name, but I may be wrong, I usually am.
The ranger who maned the unair-conditioned park visitors building said only 'tourists' visited that time of year (September). They had a boardwalk because the sand was so hot it would do a number on sneakers. The boardwalk washed away in a flood a few years ago. I don't know if they replaced it. Did you see the pictographs? Jerry
No we didn't any pictographs, we never saw any reference to them either or we would of looked for them.
Bummer!! If I can find the pictures from many moons ago I will scan and post it. I am surprised ......Wait! I'll be back in a minute....................O.K. I'm back, I did find a web site where there is a halfway decent picture from Pictograph Canyon. http://www.sunsetcities.com/Valley-of-F ... omy00.html The park site did not mention the pictographs as a tourist feature. But people do go and see them as there are many web sites with pictures posted by visitors. You did visit the state park? Jerry
Oh! Now they want money. When we went it was free. Many moons ago. Las Vegas had fewer lights. Now you do not need a flash anywhere in the state. Did you go to Red Rock Canyon? Along the way there we met with a family of burros...about eight.....they like carrots! Jerry
