Varied thrush.

    A couple of varied thrushes have been around the garden. Today I managed a picture of the female.

    What a handsome bird with the eye stripe, breast colour and wing patterns. Our thrushes look nothing like your Varied Thrush. I hope you can get a shot of the male too as I'd love to see what the difference is between the sexes.

    Nice picture of this pretty bird, Kildale.
    Back in 2008, we had a Varied Thrush show up here and stay for the winter. It was very unusual for our area. We have some connections with "birders" who identified it, and several people from the University and Audubon drove out to see it.
    It was pretty gregarious, and liked hanging around with the Robins. Experts believed it had gotten of course or lost during a snow storm (that year it was quite snowy.)
    I have a few framed photos of it, but not on my computer files...

    A few years ago we had 7 or 8 everyday. Now we have them a few times in the winter. This is one of the images I have of the male.
