Is this a good plant or a weed? What I've read about it sounds like it could get out of hand.

There are several species of Verbascum but Verbascum thapsus also known as Common Mullein is the most common one, growing in all 50 states, Canada and Greenland.

It can be invasive if it likes where it's growing but right now is only considered a noxious weed in Colorado and Hawaii.

The common name Candlewick Plant appears to apply to all Verbascum since in the long ago past it is rumored to have been used as wicking in lamps and candles.
