If days could be longer than the normal day, today would qualify. wannabe was flying down to visit for a week and arriving today at 10 am. I had a doctor's visit scheduled for yesterday and rather than make the 80 mile round trip two days in a row I changed it to today. So, we got up at 6 am and made it down to the doctor's office in record time. I was hoping to make it by 8:30. We started off by 7 am and we were there just a little after 8 so we had a wait but were finished a little after 9. It only took us about 20 minutes to get from the doctor's office to the airport. We waited and the plane came and when the baggage came, there was her baggage but where was wannabe. We couldn't find her any where. We went to the airline counter and they checked their list and said her plane from St. Louis to Dallas was delayed so she missed the connecting flight and would be in on the afternoon flight. So, we loaded her luggage into our truck and went and got some lunch and went to the second hand bookstore and bought some books and went back to the airport intending to read while we waited for the afternoon flight coming in around 3:30 pm. About 2:30 pm her son called and said she was in the hospital in Dallas. When she was boarding the flight to College Station from Dallas she had some breathing problems due to asthma and they called the paramedics who took her to the emergency room. The doctor there decided to keep her overnight. So, we waited for the second flight for nothing. But, we did have her luggage. They had tried to call us earlier but she couldn't find my cell phone number so had to call her son who had to call my other sister who had to call my other sister to find the number. They all had it but couldn't find it. I talked to wannabe tonight and she said once she could sit down and use her inhaler she was fine but they wouldn't let her on the plane because she was short of breath. She said she was feeling okay but wasn't a happy camper. She will be down tomorrow as soon as they let her out of the hospital with a doctor's release to fly. She'll call in the morning to let us know what plane she will be coming in on but thinks it will be the afternoon flight because the morning flight will leave Dallas at 9 am and she said hospitals never do anything convenient or fast in the morning. So, we will have to make the trip two days in a row anyway so she can retrieve her luggage. If we go down in the afternoon, maybe Glenda will ride with us since I won't have a doctor's appointment before we go to the airport. We got home and I sat on the porch in the sun for a bit and we had supper. I think if her son hadn't called we would have sat at that airport until the 9 pm flight because the airport people don't tell you anything. Her St. Louis flight wasn't delayed. I told them I was her sister and they didn't tell me she was sick and they wouldn't let her on the flight. Otherwise we could have come home after we had lunch. Now, I've talked to the other sisters and think I might call Dan and then go to bed. It will be another long day tomorrow, we have to get wannabe reconnected with her luggage. dooley
Whew!...What a day. That was such bad luck for everyone involved. Well, fingers crossed that she will be discharged and alowed to fly to you. Keep us posted.
Dooley I really hope Wanna is fit enough to travel tomorrow. What a frustrating and long day for you and DR to endure. Thank goodness Wanna's son telephoned you or it would have been even longer and more worrying. Do let us know how she is when she reaches and give her all our love.
Bob and I went to the grocery store today and when I got home Dooley and DR's truck was home. I was so sure wannabe was there and I saw Dooley headed over here and I knew Wannabe wasn't with her and by the look on her face I knew something was wrong.I was really ready to meet her and give har a Texas hug but I will tomorrow.
Update! Wannabe is still at the hospital in Dallas but should get released in the morning. She won't be able to fly for a few days so she is going to rent a car and drive down. She says she is feeling much better now. dooley
Sorry to hear about your long and bad day. Good days are ahead for you. We all have those days, just don't let them get you down. Wishing you and yours all the best to come.
