Hi everybody, this is my first post here, nice to see you all. Few weeks ago (about mid June,) a butterfly flied to my balcony at 7F and laid several eggs on my little orange trees. By looking up butterfly albums, I confirmed that the mother is a member of Papilio demoleus libanius, which is a very common butterfly in my country (Taiwan.) Few days later, the eggs hatched and larva started to eat, crazily. About three weeks later, larva entered into their final stage and became pupa. The following is the URL of the pupation video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vy96X6mRNw About 10 days after the pupation came the eclosion stage. The following is the URL of the eclosion video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOfjXIWe6sA There is one thing interesting and worth of mentioning that when I recorded the eclosion for the first time, my cat interrupted the process and ruined that video. Nevertheless, because the scenario so funny, I also upload its visual record to Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyb3J-Bkpcw Since Papilio demoleus libanius is a quite common butterfly, I guess most of you have already seen related pictures and videos, nevertheless, I hope all of you will enjoy my videos. Please feel free to share your opinions with me. Cheers~
Hi SF, Welcome to GardenStew from Chelmsford MA USA. While your intended subject matter was the butterfly, the cat stole the show. Now a half a million youtube viewers probably want to see more of the cat. Indeed we are a community of gardeners from around the world. With it's many forums, gardens, blogs and plants there is something for everyone. Welcome aboard. Jerry
Hi Jerry, Haha, yeah, she is my naughty angel. Always drives me crazy but cannot mad at her. BTW, the butterfly she annoyed completed the eclosion stage successfully. Thank you for the warm message. Have a nice weekend.
I loved all three videos SF but the one with your cat made me smile. She was so curious, yet gentle, with the butterfly - no claws or teeth!! Welcome to GardenStew and I hope you'll make your stay with us a long one. I look forward to getting to know you. :-D
Hi Eileen, Yap, she is such a curious lady, she seldom uses claws, and since I rub her belly with my face very often, her ladiness saves me lots of bandaids. ;-) Thank you for the nice message.
