I had a good laugh the other day when i was cruising the net for a time, an came across an article on roots an herbs that are a new idea. what made me laugh is this, dandelion root coffee. first of all i live in norway an there is a viking museum just down the road from me an they teach you how to make recipes from that time period. coffee is one of them. the norwegians have been drinking root coffee for as far back as can be remembered an probably so have a lot of other cultures. but here is the recipe for viking coffee. now is the time, autumn to go out an pick the roots of the dandelion, clean them, then chop up into little discs or pieces,, let them dry over night then take an put them in a warm oven, i use 100C on broil an keep checking, once they turn a golden brown its time to take out. you can then take a heaping tablespoon for every cup an boil in water, i use a little more because i like strong coffee. boil for 15 min. when there is just a min or 2 left i add a very small amount of cinnamon and a piece of vanilla bean. then i let the coffee sit for a few minutes then enjoy! you can add honey an milk if that is how you like your regular coffee also. the added ingredients are endless so experiment an try it. its not really that bad of a taste. i call my coffee with cinnamon,, viking cinnamon latte coffee!!

if you don't have vanilla bean then add vanilla extract or essence after coffee is done when it is resting for a few minutes....

I'm sorry, but I'm not tempted. I prefer proper coffee. The dandelion roots will end up in the bin.

acually it has a very mild taste, but, it might not be a taste for everyone. its kind of like a cross between watered down coffee an tea. i think it has a good taste, an there is a taste of the roasting process to it. so the new "coffee" is actually something very very old,,, thats where i find the humor.
