I have 4 large 20 inch terra cotta planters that I'm hoping to put a climbing vine in. I'm looking at a 4 foot style trellis.

I was thinking along the lines of sweat peas, morning glories or clematis. I figured I'd plant Impatients at the base.

What would you recommend for the climbing vine? I'm in the DC area (hardiness 7-8).

    TIA

You could try Hyacinth Bean Vine, Mandavilla, Carolina Jessamine. Those all do well in full sun.

Impatiens are a shade plant, the New Guinea Impatiens will tolerate some sun but still not full sun. Since the vines we both mentioned are full sun, you will need to try something else planted at the base.

I like planting Sweet Alyssum in pots with vines. Petunias or Marigolds would be good too.

I grew Thunbergia alata (Black Eyed Susan Vine) in pots last year and they did well.
