I want to build something that costs next to nothing to construct for my squash and cucumbers to grow up. Do any of you have any ideas for some kind of construction?

My plan was to use some of the tree branches I cut down when cutting back the brush in the back yard and tie them together with twine I already own in the garage. I'm just not quite sure how to put it together. Any ideas?

If they are still pliable, I would weave them together in a lattice form. If not, tie them together in a lattice with the twine. If they are larger branches then you could bury as many as you want into the ground so they are good and solid and then tie the twine between them in layers. If I was doing it that way then there would be about 6 inches between the lines of twine and the branches about 2 feet apart.

I don't think it really matters as long you have enough there to support the weight of the vines and small enough for the grabber things to get ahold of it and hold on tight to it. I would think that anything 1/2 inch or smaller is gonna work for the grabber vines but that is a total guess on my side.

One way I have seen it done was to take large branches and make a V shape with numerous branches spaced about 2 feet apart. Then twine and rope was laced inbetween them in numerous rows to hold the vines. They seemed to work really well and the V's slowly completely vanished behind thick foliage by mid summer here.
