Yesterday I was making a new entry in my blog, and I was almost done when my stupid computer crashed! Grrrrr! My computer always crashes when Im almsot done with something that took awhile to do! I wish I could get my laptop fixed so I can use it instead! *sigh*
One of the downfalls of not using pen and paper anymore but then a paper message takes longer to send around the world. I have lost blog entries when I wasn't paying attention and hit the wrong combination of keys by accident and the whole entry goes 'poof' and I haven't the faintest idea of what I just did or how to undo it if it can be undone.
That sounds so familiar guys, the same things have happened here too. I guess it is just one of the downfalls of modern tech.
Actually my computer crashed last night as well, must have been one of those days TheBip and all, on a practical note when writing anything into a browser on any website I recommend not writing it directly into the browser at first. Personally I write into a simple text editor like Notepad, Wordpad or TextPad and save the document as I write it. When I'm finished I simply copy and paste into the browser and submit. if my connection goes down or my browser crashes I'll still have the text document
Aww, sorry Bip, yep, :-? I definitely feel your pain. I'm learning ( slowly) to do as Frank advised, especially if my post is going to be long or complicated. Sometimes my browser window will freeze up when I open (or close) another window, for instance to follow a link or use a feature like preview or SpellCheck. It's SO frustrating!! I suspect it may be one of my pop-up blockers that is to blame.
I save mind the way Frank does too Jen as I hated it when the computer threw a wobbly and everything used to get lost.
Frank, using a word processor is almost a must, for me at least, as I'm Dyslexic and what I type doesn't always come out on the screen the same as I saw it in my mind. However I need something better than "word pad" or "note pad", to move sentences around, & spell check, so I use MS "Works". ( no paper clip to yell at).(although it does remind you to save your work) I keep a short cut on my desk top directly to a blank page in works. That way one click takes me right to it. With a word processor you can do a lot off line, leave something half done and return later, and so much more. It works well with regular EMails too. Copy and paste do work well, and if you do something to loose your work, look in "Edit" on the top tool bar, there is an "undo Typing" that can often save things if you don't hit any keys after the miss strike. Also use "save" on long peaces. Save won't stop the crash, but what was saved will be there when you get going again. For me a good word processor is wonderful. Used it for this. Tom
Ive been told so many times to do documents on wordpad (we no longer have MS Word), but I always forget! I have ADHD (and Dyslexia ^_^) so I forget things very often. Im just never gonna learn *lol* Also, Id probably forget to save it every so often, then if my comp crashed Id still lose it >_< Oh well, its better than nothing Gonna go try to type it up again (at least I remember what I was doing with it)
