I made some dough for the squash bread rolls to take to the Writer's Guild dinner (party) tonight. I had squash left so I made a second batch to make braided loaves for us. I think I'm going to make some almond shortbread cookies. I was looking through my cookie book and saw the recipe which reminded me I had not made shortbread yet. These sound good and easy. I came in here to look for that big bag of almonds. They are not here so I must have moved them. I wonder where. Yesterday I made Jan Hagel and Coconut Butter Balls. For some reason my cookies never make as many as the recipe says it will make. They don't look too big but maybe they are. Oh, well! They will get ate fast enough anyway. Someone told me I would have to make some more of those peanut butter daisies because someone ate the rest of them. I wonder who? I guess I can do that tomorrow. I just have to get cards out today.

This is the first year I made peanut butter daisies. They are supposed to be made with a cookie press but I just made them into round balls and flattened them a bit and put a chocolate chip or two on the top and was finished. It's a softer peanut butter dough. I'll have to look up the recipe. I saw it when I was copying a recipe for marlingardner. Since I've been under the weather I look for easier ones to make. I'm not sure I will make gingerbread boys this year. I do want to make some rolled sugar cookies though.

I hope that your cookies turned out well.

When I got married 50 yrs ago and we moved halfway across the country I didn't have a cookie recipe. So, I went and bought a Betty Crocker cookie book. I've worn one completely out and am working hard on the second one. There are a few recipes from that first book that I have made every year for 50 years. I'm winding down this year though and not making so many. The pfeffernusse, the Jan Hagel, the lemon bars and the cherry-coconut bars and shortbread and gingerbread boys and sugar cut out cookies,, just to name a few.
My squash rolls turned out good and everyone liked them. I didn't bring any home. I made three braided loaves. I gave one hot out of the oven to a neighbor and have two left for toast.

I LOVE my Betty Crocker Cookbook! I got my first one as a Christmas gift from my Aunt when I was about 11. I didn't appreciate it until many years later when I moved out and had to cook for myself. I have since gotten a few of her other cookbooks and they are still my favorite ones.

I want to be Dooley's neighbour! :D I don't like baking, hence I'm no good at it either. Maybe Dooley could inspire me if she were closer.
