Interesting... I'm guessing the bottle has a small hole for the opening? Otherwise, what would keep all the water from just draining out?
The person who posted the images said that it drained out pretty slowly but that was because the plants were watered to begin with. I was thinking it may lead to over-watering but maybe it may be an interesting experiment for someone
.................. I believe some one has posted about this watering system/device (using plastic 2-liter bottles) but I was unable to find the post with a search.. I seem to remember that the technique DID involve drilling one or a few very small holes in the lid/cap of the bottle.. Another use/technique someone posted was using these bottles (with bottom cut away) and partially filled with barnyard manure as 'on-the-spot' manure tea manufacturers and dispensers, an idea with much merit in my opinion.. I've seen the 2 liter plastic bottles used in the ground... which would help put some added moisture... but in a container I think Frank is right, it would lead to over watering. Also with the bottles, you get added water from the condensation.
Someone has marketed the idea with a little sprucing up as seen on TV http://www.amazon.com/Aqua-Globes-AG011706-Watering-2-Pack/dp/B000FHAJ90. So popular I found it on Amazon.com called aqua globes let me know how the original idea works. I'm thinking some pretty little bottles from the 2nd hand store might be worth giving a try.
Did someone say experiment? The recycle container will be a few bottles short this week. Oh No!! The recycle truck has already been here. No bottles!! :-( Now I will have to drink more beer to get bottles. I have to find some willing subjects.......Pictures soon...... Jerry
They are like those lil blue glass ball plant watering things. I wish I could remember the name. I had some and they were a pain. Id rather just water my plants. But good if your going away for a day or so. I still have one in my mini rose pot cause its pretty... haha Oh I just realized they are those globes Jewell posted about. Fyi very annoying to fill, takes patience. (I'm short on that)
I use the 2 liter bottles to deep water and fertilize my tomatoes. I bought spikes with holes that fit the bottles at Harbor freight. I put a spike in the ground when I plants the plants and left it there. Now when I fertilize it goes directly to the roots and no run off. It work quite well.
A few words and a few pictures. There's a cheaper method than this that you'll see. And I share it.freely. Ask any questions, and I will answer. You see the proof. These were taking today. Plants have been restricted from growing too tall as I just moved to WV, and the outdoor garden isn't ready. As well, I'm not liking.the environment personally. Who is controlling the weather? Well, apparently I have to go through major hassles on these forums. I've been trying.to share my knowledge, and it has been a pain. Not very mobile friendly are we? I'll be back after a headache or two with these pictures.
