Well today started out to be a very yuckie day. (is yuckie a word?) It was foggy, rainy and very humid. The night was so cold, but as the day worn on it got more and more humid. So what do you do when its a day like that. Your turn the stove on, to make it more humid! So today became Jam Day. I made my tyttebær jam and it really turned out nice. I got 9 jars, and 2 bottle of syrup for pankakes.

There was only one problem, as i was cooking up a storm, i should say cooking away a storm, it got nice and sunny out, and guess who was stuck in the kitchen. But the day wasn't a total loss, i got nice jam and syrup and still got a few hours of outside time in. So come on, lets get cookin, so we can go out and play.

I started with 6 kilos of frozen tyttebær, 4 for the jam and 2 for the syrups.

I added 2, 1 kilo sacks of sugar. Remember this stuff is super tart. Its still tart with all that sugar added. Let that melt down and boil until the berries are clear and the liquid is bubbling. And because the magic of the Garden Stew, heres the jars, the syrup is still cooking.

And because everyone was such a huge help in getting me out of the kitchen and into the outdoors, heres your slice. Still a little warm too!

So did you like the taste? You did! Great, lets go get some more.

You know i think we all worked pretty hard today so lets just sit right down and eat some raw tyttebær and enjoy the view. Look at that, the sea and the mountain all look like one pic sunglow.

I think we need to go home for another slice of bread and jam,, I feel a few rain drops.

Those berries make a beautiful-looking jam! Can't think of anything better to do on a "yucky" day...looks yummy, I can almost taste it from here! It always seems like it's on the hottest, most humid days of the year that we're all canning and processing. Thanks for sharing!

Lucky you and lucky US! :-D
That project looks like a total success. The piece of jellied bread made my mouth water and my parotid glands contract! :) heh heh heh

Those berries in your hand looked so good. I could have crept up like a cold-nosed deer and nibbled them from your palm.

But what about that landscape  piccy!!! Jeeeez, that is beautiful. It looks sort of like a Maxfield Parrish litho. Spectacular, Biita. Had it been horizontal, I would have asked for it in it's original size for my compi.
    I'm so impressed with that.

perhaps they'd make a tasty dry red wine or a tart cordial???!

ahhh biita, what fun! great pics too! love those little jam jars and the colored checkered lids. the pics of the mountains and sea looks like a painting...really beautiful! i really miss the ocean...

our plums are within a few days ripe, so i'm preparing to make some plum jam and wine. also, am still picking blackberries and readying to make wine and jam of them also. very soon our apples and pears will be ready. hubby's fixing up our apple press in anticipation! our Fall time seems to be getting later and later each year. the gardens are still going strong...so strange, yet wonderful! thanks for sharing your fun and tasty times!!!

    :D

Thanks Bunkie! Ohh lucky you with all those other berries i don't have here. Its to cold to grow blackberries, i have tried, in a few different places, for the sun and trying to block the cold, still didn't work. I'm investigating if plums will grow up here. I think they might, this little purple (almost almond shaped) plum. I don't know the name, thats what i'm trying to find out. If so, i love plum wine, jam and all the good stuff.

With your apples, i see you press them, i take it you make ciders and wines. What kind of press do you have. I'm not sure apples can grow up here either, but i haven't really looked into it.

ohhh man apple cider, apple jam, apple jelley, apple wine, applesauce, apple butter,,,gawd i would be so happy, and in my glory making all that! You are so lucky!

My crops should keep going until at least the middle of Oct, then that will be it..unless we get some really strange weather up here,, it could happen. But it is so great to be able to still go out there and just look in wonder at what the earth can do, no matter what the climate.
