I was outside this afternoon and saw a small cloud in the north. So I said a prayer that we sure could use about an inch of rain on the cantaloupes and watermelons. We got slightly under an inch ! I figured the Lord didn`t use accurate measurements either ! Any one need some cantaloupes ?

Well, how did you get that rain and we didn't get any. We are not that far from you. But, last week Huntsville got rain and we didn't get any and we're just 30 miles from there. We want some rain, too! I have to go water the garden in a bit. Right now it's so hot and sunny it would just cook the stuff right out there.
I would like a cantaloupe. Just throw it and I'll catch it when it comes past.

Well I wondered where the pop-up showers would be today. Glad there was one over you this time. Cheryl has had rain, now you, Dooley gets the next turn then I want some. Wish we could put in our orders that way.

Gee I could give you all as much rain as you like. I think we've maybe had around three weeks altogether this year when it hasn't been wet. It's just a pity sunny days never come all together.

I'm pleased that you got rain though Mart as it really does wonders for a garden.

Congrats on getting some rain Mart!
When I got home from work, dark clouds to the North and East. Beaumont got the rain. Liberty got some too. We got a sprinkle... not enough to even measure. But I'm not complaining.
Toni... I like your idea of each of our poor drought-stricken Texan gardens taking turns with the rain.
And oh yeah, Mart... about those cantaloupes... I want some too!!!!

You are so lucky. What I wouldn't give for some rain. Just north of Dallas Texas. The weather here is terrible. Nothing but hot & dry. Shure, rain to the West North and East. But we happen to be in that one dry spot. Having to water everything manually can be a pain. It would be nice if mother nature would take over for a change. Your so lucky.

Thats the way we were. In a hole where anything that fell was all around us but nothing here. We are in Mt Pleasant, and all the surrounding areas have had more than we have had. It is actually sprinkling this morning. Went out to feed the horses in a shower but it sure felt good.
I don`t know how they did it but the cantaloupes have made like crazy in this drought. I have been picking anywhere from 6 to 15 daily for the last week. Wish they would last longer than they do and I would put everyone a box in the mail full of cantaloupes. I had to devise a makeshift cooler from a large plastic can. It holds a little over 5 gallons. So I laid it on its side and draped an old thick towel over the top. Then loaded all the cantaloupes in it. Had a jug of water frozen and put it in with them. Then put on the lid. As I kept the towel wet on top, the cantaloupes stayed cool and fared well for days even in this 104 degree heat. I will say a prayer that everyone that needs rain will get a good one.

Hey! I got some rain this evening! Not much but it says I have a 40 percent chance of getting some more tomorrow afternoon and evening. Thanks, Toni!

I returned home from work to discover 1.25 inches of wet stuff in the rain gauge! woohooo... no need to drag out the water hoses this evening.

    Congratulations!

We got great rain early in the week. Now our rainy season is taking a break. It's supposed to return on Monday afternoon.

I actually had to get out and water this morning.

Glad some of you are getting showers. Bad thing is a few of my watermelons absorbed water so fast after being dry that they busted. Had to eat those,,thats a shame isn`t it ? LOL

Oh Mart... so glad you posted that. Our melons did the same thing with the last rain.
and today... we were fortunately enough to get a couple more inches of rain! Hubby's out of town... I'd better go check the last few melons to make sure they didn't split!

We didn`t get that much. Just the first inch then about 1/4 in. the next day. A few of my smaller melons burst but thank heavens we didn`t lose but two of the larger ones and we ate those. It wasn`t a total loss. I took some of the melon out and put it in tupperware and put it in the refrigerator for later. Hope yours don`t burst.
