Well friends I'm stumped again. This plant was not planted by me and have NO idea what it is,so I come to the experts. ed mystery plant ( photo / image / picture from Edlou8181's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Edlou8181's Garden )
I am getting better at my weeds. Yes it's Lady's Thumb, and it's a weed in these here parts. Same as you...
Ed, I simply love the fact that you ask what a plant is before you yank it! So many gardeners lose natives and other plants that birds or the wind provide because "if I didn't plant it, I don't want it." Some of our best natives I've never planted, but transplanted from the pasture, or just found jumping up in the oddest places. A true gardener is willing to give almost any plant a chance. You, sir, are a true gardener!
If I don't recognize it. I'll let it grow a little just to see what it looks like. LOL Some of our "weed" are really cool looking. Others not so much.
we let some clumps of weeds continue to grow, and they ended up to be things we'll keep. a few patches turned out to be clumps of goldenrod, which I sort of like for fall color, not sure if it is a weed technically or not.
Goldenrod grows wild most everywhere, and some call it a 'weed'. However a lot of people like it, and they do have a tame variety out now that you can get from a lot of nurseries. I cant see spending money on something that grows wild all over the place though. I was reading someplace about growing goldenrod, and they said to mark the plants and wait until early spring when it is wet and rainy to move them so they adjust to being moved better. I intend to get some for my garden and mark them this month.
The only weeds that I get in my yard that I like are the violets. Everything else is either grassy (crabgrass, foxtail grass) or prickly (thistle!) or spews seeds like theres no tomorrow (Im talking about you, dandelions! Healthy or not, I dont like them).
