So, in Western Washington we've had nearly 4 inches of rain in 24 hours. Schools around here are shutting down early all over the place, some catagorized as evacuations. A mudslide took out a house about an hour ago, a couple of towns have been evacuated, my driveway in my exceedingly well-drained soil looks like a river. Whoo! Are you out there, MuddyBob?
We are expected to get another 3" in the next 24 hours, and my sweetie (who works for a utility) called to let me know they are stacking up sandbags around all their facilities. The snow level rose because the storm is coming at us from Hawaii, so rivers are causing major grief.
On the up side, it doesn't look like we'll have to deal with anything like the big flood that left livestock dangling in trees. This one is coming up much more slowly. And, the flooding is carrying away the splintered bits of outbuildings and barns that the snow collapsed. Nice if one lives upstream.
I'm going to go into a state of denial now and bury my nose in a seed catalog...
(Our Eastern Washington Stewbies have it worse, with record snowfall that just won't stop, and buildings collapsing from it all)

Geeze, it's a shame the rain at least can't be spread out over a larger area.....like some of it down here for example. We can't buy rain, trust me I have tried.

Nose in seed catalogs is good....until your toes start getting cold then you might consider moving to higher ground...or just take the catalogs upstairs instead.

I'm now very glad I live in Scotland and only have to put up with freezing temperatures.

ah, but the fact that it suddenly rose well above freezing is part of the problem.
Turns out, I spoke too soon- the flood that left livestock in the trees is the same flood that shut down the interstate last winter; I hear now that the interstate has just gone under and they expect it to close in a few hours. Worse, the bridge that is the only practical access to my road is now covered with water. Not enough to cause a problem yet, but DH is being forced to work until late tonight and it will likely be impassable by then. He will have to go through the forest, a hazardous trip in a wind storm, which we are also having.
    Oh dear oh dear odear.....

Wow Critter--you really are having some wild weather there at the moment. Do you have a few supplies laid-by? it sounds like you could be cutoff for a while.
I hope that you folks will be alright.

We had quite a bit of rain the last couple of days but no where near what you are having. No snow either. I hope your DH gets home okay. I know what a worry it is to not know exactly where he is or what is happening at any given time. Storms like that are sure scary. Good thoughts and prayers going your way. dooley

Oh dear Mary! I hope you haven't paced a path into the floor - I'm sure I would have by now! The weather is so crazy lately...

I'm so nervous I'm driving my kids straight up a wall. DH is out in this. I was supposed to go to a neighbor's house, but even my emergency route is under water. The interstate both south of me and some distance north of me are in the process of being closed. I'm watching news pictures of areas where friends live, houses are being flooded, swept away, you name it. I just heard a big explosion outside far away, no clue what it could be. Maybe a transformer, but, obviously, I still have power anyway.
Sheesh, I feel like ending this with "this is Mary live at the scene, KWET news"

Mary I sincerely hope that your husband is alright. Please let us know if he is home and safe. I didn't appreciate just how bad things were for you - neither wonder you are worried. Stay safe and I'll be thinking of you and your friends and hoping that they were well away by the time the floods hit. Let's all prey that everything calms down and that the water recedes before doing any more damage.

Yay, my sweetie made it home safe! He had to take a very roundabout way to get here, and was very happy to swap out of his work boots & muddy things. I'm going to stop staring like a owl in the headlights at the pictures of all the damage, and just see what I wake up to in the morning.
Thanks for letting me type all this down, I've had alot of nervous energy to burn up and one can only do so many paintings at a time (I even painted one for my fellow spring-starved stewbies, just got to wrangle getting it properly photographed!)

Oh, Mary, I'm so sorry for that messy weather you've got! *big hug* I'm glad you're all together now, and I just hope the flooding won't happen, the rain will stop and things will be back to normal.

Oh Mary, I'm so glad your DH got home safely! I've noticed that my nervousness about such things is greatly reduced once everyone is home safe and sound.
I hope things are looking better today :)

Mary, so glad DH made it home OK. During bad weather, if a family member is out in it, that makes everything so much worse. Once they are home, it doesn't seem to matter how bad it gets outside.
But I am so sorry you guys are having such a rough winter. Looks like it would let up soon.

People on the east coast are also having a terrible time. Thoughts are out to all who are struggling with wild weather.
