I was in the back garden yesterday when I heard chainsaw's, nothing new in that. Then I heard the commercial chipper start up. Long story short, I got two loads of fresh wood chips dumped directly on my front garden. I'm not worried about soil compaction, winter and a good broadfork in the spring will take care of that. When I'm done, I'll have three to four inches of wood chips all over the front garden. Come spring, just rake aside plant, and rake back to control weeds. Makes no till gardening sooooooo much easier! Especially for lazy people like me.
WE will be getting 85 cubic yards of double ground mulch delivered very soon. It will be covered for the Winter and spread in the flower gardens in April. No laziness here..most of the time.
Miss Barb, Momma always said I'd die carrying a lazy man's load. I've discovered that if you want to find the fastest easiest way to get a job done, give it to a lazy man. Less hoeing of weeds, is a lazy man's dream, especially one what likes to eat fresh from the garden.
I don;t think I could use mulch in my veggie gardens for this wonderful hubby i have around the house wants to till them every few weeks. If the mulch wasn't broken down enough it would get stuck in the tiller tines. That would lead to a very unhappy camper hubby at waretropville....
I had a load dumped several years ago but never again. Before it started to break down ants and bugs took over. Could not get rid of them without moving the whole pile. Was a rotting mess by spring. Hope yours turns out better.
Ah, Mart. I have already got most of it spread. Too thin for the bugs to enjoy, too thick for the weeds to enjoy. I've done this before, just not at this house.
