Thanks everyone for the prayers and good thoughts. God blessed us more than we deserve. Besides the 2 large trees, and lots of very large limbs all over. We had very little damage, only to our well, but just some pipes and they were fixed the next day. We got lights back today. It was very trying with Mom and the heat. Then we got a cool front come through, and she felt better, I am going back to work Monday, so that gives me tomorrow to clean the house. The yard will get done a little at a time. I don't think I lost any major plants, just a begonia in a pot, another pot of achimenes, and a plant rack. The pine tree hit the rack and drove it so far into the ground that Richard and I haven't been able to pull it out. The ceramic pot on the rack was flipped over without a chip on it. We are good and very thankful for all of God's blessing He poured out on us during this storm.
So glad to hear that you are ok. Glad to hear you have lights too. I heard that area could take up to 6 weeks to get them back but it seems they are working harder now to get them back.
It's good to hear from you. We've been keeping track of things through Glenda. I hope your mom will be doing better now. I'm glad things weren't too bad and are fixable. dooley
Thanks all. kk, around Cocodrie and Houma it is going to take probably that long. Gustav came on shore at Cocodrie, Houma is directly above there, about 22 miles and we are due north of Houma about 60 miles. I haven't seen a hurricane with this much wind in a long time. If it had come on shore as a cat 4, like originally predicted, we would have been wiped out. It was bad enough and did damage all the way through the state. Most of the town I live in is on another energy company and some of the lines running through the swamp are down. The water started rising and they cannot get to the lines to fix them. They will be out about 3 weeks. The river at Port Vincent crested today, French Settlement, where I live should crest tomorrow, then the water will start receding and the will be able to get to the lines, hopefully before Hurricane Ike makes it here.I am so thankful it is over and I just pray for all of those still affected.
WHEW! We were all holding our breath there for awhile. Glad you're back now safe and sound. Those natural occurences are always exciting but a bit worrying. Good to see you back, CB.
What a relief to know that you are all safe and sustained no major damage to your property. We have no idea, here in Scotland, what it's like to be at the mercy of hurricanes but were so worried about Richard, you and your mum. Let's just hope that Ike steers well away from you and that you can start getting everything back to normal again.
so glad to hear the good news. Now hoping that Ike stays away so you'll be able to get things cleaned up.
So good to hear from you! We've been worried, and are pleased to hear that you are fine. I've only experienced one hurricane, and that was more than enough, thank you very much.
