Thanks to friends, we hauled wood closer to the house over the weekend. I've spent the last two days stacking it on our lannonstone patio near the pond (you can see a part of our pond, as well as our log gazebo, in the picture above). It may look like a lot of wood (and my sore back and arms are telling me so!), but it's not nearly enough to make it through our Wisconsin winters. More hauling and stacking are in store for us.

They say wood warms you four times...when you cut it, haul it, stack it, and burn it. In our case, it warms us at least 6 times by the time we get the wood to its final destination!

And we're having our first snow flurries of the season here today, so it's none too soon to get the wood ready...we normally have our first flurries in early October, so this is late for us. Bring it on!!!

What a lovely looking pile of wood! :D I can nearly hear the crackling all the way over here. :D I think I need to light a fire one of these days. We've got snow forecast for tomorrow too, but it's on the early side for us.

What a lovely image I have in mind... watching a beautiful fire and looking out at the pond. Oh and roasting marshmellows. I know you back hurts...mine hurts just looking at all that wood. Wish we had winters in Texas! :(

Gosh you've certainly been working hard to get all that wood hauled into place!! I hope the weather isn't too bad in the near future so that you can get the rest stored.

    How true!
Glad you are set for winter and are looking forward to the snow. We have already had some flurries last week and I wouldn't be upset if they were the last!
The older I get, the more I hate winter!

That's a lot of wood and I know just how your back feels. DH and I spent 3 days hauling everything from twigs to the trunks of 2 cut up trees that came down durning Hurricane Gustav. We burned for those 3 days also. We have 1 large tree left to get cut up and 2 more that came down in the wooded part of our property.

Burrrrrrrr...that foto made me get a chill. :) It looks like an enormous amount of wood already. About how much more will you need?
I'm sorry to hear about your soreness...I guess that will improve once all the work has been completed.

Nice stacking Kaseylib. I can feel for you with the cold winter coming. Sometimes I wish we had a wood fire place, ours is gas, but the convience of flipping a switch is so nice. Keep a heating pad on your back until the next hauling and then you can relax in front of that fire with some nice hot cocoa!

I've hauled and cut wood and stacked it. We lived in Wisconsin for many years and we only have a wood stove for heat here. I won't know what to do if we don't have to cut and stack wood any more. Glenda did say the house has a fireplace so maybe we will get some for it though. dooley

I have 6 cords put up for the winter and I hope it's too much! Would rather not use it all than to run out! I have had a small fire going in the mornings the past seceral days to take the chill off.

Wow! Looks like us up here. We have been doing the same thing. We got about 2 of those rows in the shed/blacksmith shop now. And were waiting on another load to come in Nov. You better believe it warms you more than 4 times,,,lol. We have snow on the mountains and frost on the ground here. Won't be to much longer before its all frozen here. If we keep on having the storms we been having here we might have to order even more wood with all the power failures. Stay nice and warm there this winter!

Wow - the early bird catches the worm they say - in your case it is the early birs gets warm first.

I simply like the way you put it about the wood warming you up 4 times. 8)

I'm glad to hear that we're not the only ones working hard to prepare for the cold weather ahead. We'll be hauling again as much yet this fall, and that will hopefully get us through the winter here. As much as I complain about the aches and pains, I actually love this type of exercise. Who needs a health club!!!

I too think that woodpiles are a beautiful site at this time of year (but come spring it's the last thing I want to see in my yard).

Despite the cold, blustery conditions yesterday when I was stacking, we still have not had a killing frost here...my begonias and impatiens are STILL blooming. More cold weather is predicted, though, so tonight might be the night to say goodbye once and for all. Thanks for all of your comments, and keep warm everyone!
